Importing OrCAD Netlists

Supplied with Eagle is a net list converter that allows importing of an OrCAD schematic netlist. The conversion program creates a SCRIPT that is invoked in Eagle Layout. In order to use Eaglelayout with OrCAD Netlists the following steps should be followed:

1. Check your OrCAD schematic for design mistakes using the DRC design rules check.

2. Export your OrCAD netlist into MULTIWIRE format from OrCAD.

3. Invoke the OrCAD netlist converter supplied with Eagle, XCONVERT.EXE using the following example:  "XCONVERT -ORCAD  source destination" where source = you OrCAD created netlist, destination name of created Eagle Script file.  For example: XCONVERT  -ORCAD  XYZ  ABC.SCR
The name XYZ is your created OrCAD netlist and ABC.SCR is the created Eagle script file.

4. Start up Eagle and EDIT a new board with all of the packages placed using your OrCAD schematic as a guide.  Insure that the packages placed are what you want in your design.

5. After your parts are placed invoke the *.scr file created from the converter. All of the connections will  be produced as airwires.

6. Invoke the ratsnest command and route your board as normal.

CAUTION:
Be advised that since there is no Eagle schematic no cross probe checking occurs. It is up to you to insure that the correct packages and connected pin/pad combinations are correct. You can export a pin list to check this. One area of concern is to verify the polarity of polarized parts, eg. Diodes, Tant. Caps.  Also if you use a larger pin package than required no error will occur. An error will only occur with using a smaller than needed package.
